21Jul Eltax Concept 400 speaker (Review)
Eltax is known for its Big Bang Small Bugs concept. Currently I am the owner of the Eltax Concepts 400 speakers for two weeks. I had it ordered from a mail order company that is reasonably known here in the Netherlands. When unpacking, I noticed that there where small damages to the corners, I think that this partly lies in the packaging and most of it to the carrier. The finishing of the speakers is excellent and they are also nicely heavy, 19KG a piece and this naturally feels a lot more expensive.
Setup.
The Eltax speakers are connected to a Sony STR-DG520 receiver, that I also recently have in my possession. Before this I had two satellite speakers from Magnat as front speakers, these Magnat speakers always had a great sound in combination with my Denon receiver and Kenwood subwoofer (sw-501). My old Denon receiver was setup in 2.1 so my setting for movies and music was always right. Because my Sony receiver is 5.1, the settings for music and movies are not equal. So that’s why I bought this Eltax Concept 400 speakers. Now I can listen in normal stereo mode witch I think is still
best way to listen to cd’s and mp3’s. Of course music DVD’s are better in 5.1.
The listing test.
The quality of speakers is distinguished from how close it comes to reality. Of course there is also the personal opinion that lurks around the corner. You understand it is very difficult to write something about the quality of a speaker.
My experience is that this Eltax Concept 400 speakers sound good and they even sound better when they played for a couple of weeks. In the beginning the bass sounded a bit stiff but this is probably because they still had to be played for a while so the drives will be more loose. The styles of music that I listen the most are: Metal (especially Korn & Nonpoint), Dance, Hip Hop and top40. I’m very happy with these speakers and I recently visited Expert (Electronics store in the Netherlands)and have been listening to
various speakers, the Eltax Concepts 400 speakers certainly do not inferior to the medium / low class Hifi speakers that are currently in the picture. So if you want to enjoy listening to music and you’re not an audiophile than these Eltax Concept 400 speakers are certainly not a dumb choice.
